Trademark professionals spend countless hours repeating the same organizational and administrative tasks. Many of those tasks can now be streamlined with AI “Skills:”reusable, purpose-built capabilities that are replacing the one-off custom assistants, like ChatGPT GPTs and Gemini Gems, that many of us built over the past two years. Skills are not a replacement for legal judgment, but they are an efficient and effective way to turn repeatable tasks into consistent, reusable workflows.
In this session, Kathleen Jose of Uber will introduce the shift from general-purpose custom assistants to AI Skills, and walk attendees through how trademark teams can build and combine Skills to support intake, triage, research organization, and process guidance. Attendees will learn how to identify appropriate use cases, build clear Skill instructions, apply knowledge resources and web search responsibly, and maintain human review as an essential part of any AI-assisted workflow. Participants will learn to:
- Understand generative AI, large language models, and the recent shift by platforms from custom agents to AI Skills
- Identify trademark tasks that are well-suited for a purpose-built Skill
- Build a basic trademark-focused Skill using clear instructions, context, formatting, and guardrails
- Combine multiple Skills into a larger workflow instead of building one all-purpose agent
- Use knowledge resources and web search responsibly while minimizing misinformation risks
- Keep human review and professional judgment at the center of any AI-assisted trademark work

, Senior Program Manager, Uber
Kathleen Jose is the Senior Program Manager of the Brand Protection Team at Uber. In this role, she oversees operational strategy, online brand protection, and domain portfolio management, while leveraging AI to streamline and enhance workflows. Kathleen has been a professional in the intellectual property field since 2015, including six years at Block, Inc. (formerly Square) supporting their global IP portfolio. She also currently serves as a Co-chair of the Events Subcommittee on INTA’s Trademark Administrators Committee. Kathleen is based in San Francisco, and in her free time enjoys baking, exploring new music, yoga and weight training.
