Trademark professionals spend countless hours repeating the same organizational and administrative tasks. But many of those tasks could be streamlined using an AI agent. While agentic AI is not a replacement for legal judgment, it is an efficient and effective way to turn repeatable tasks into reusable, structured workflows.
In this session, Kathleen Jose of Uber will introduce the basics of agentic AI and walk attendees through how AI agents built from general-purpose tools, such as ChatGPT GPTs or Gemini Gems, can be customized to support trademark intake, triage, research organization, and process guidance. Attendees will learn how to identify appropriate use cases, build clear agent instructions, apply knowledge documents and web search responsibly, and maintain human review as an essential part of any AI-assisted workflow. Participants will learn to:
- Understand generative AI, large language models, and agentic AI workflows
- Identify trademark tasks that are well-suited for custom AI agents
- Build a basic trademark-focused agent using clear instructions, context, formatting, and guardrails
- Use knowledge documents and web search responsibly while minimizing misinformation risks
- Evaluate when AI agents can save time, improve consistency, or enhance team workflows

, Senior Program Manager, Uber
Kathleen Jose is the Senior Program Manager of the Brand Protection Team at Uber. In this role, she oversees operational strategy, online brand protection, and domain portfolio management, while leveraging AI to streamline and enhance workflows. Kathleen has been a professional in the intellectual property field since 2015, including six years at Block, Inc. (formerly Square) supporting their global IP portfolio. She also currently serves as a Co-chair of the Events Subcommittee on INTA’s Trademark Administrators Committee. Kathleen is based in San Francisco, and in her free time enjoys baking, exploring new music, yoga and weight training.
