TMAE Summit RoundtablesPrompt and Circumstance: AI Use in Trademark Prosecution

Alt Legal Team | May 27, 2026
2 min read

We’ll be making the most of our time during the lunch hour at the TMAE Summit by hosting small roundtable discussions on a variety of relevant topics. Each roundtable will have a host assigned to lead the discussion with pertinent questions, allowing you to share knowledge and resources and get to know your fellow conference attendees.

Roundtable Description

AI is increasingly being used in trademark prosecution, and TMAs are often asked to incorporate it into their workflows without clear guidance on where it fits or how far it should go. As we work together to make sense of new technologies’ uses and limitations, we can all benefit from sharing our ideas and experiences. In this roundtable, Emma Walters of Miller Johnson will lead a discussion about how AI is being used during the trademark prosecution process, from trademark searches through registration. The conversation will focus on practical use cases and professional judgment, including:

  • Supporting intake and preliminary clearance research in advance of filing
  • Drafting and refining identifications of goods and services
  • Assisting with responses to Office Actions, including review of exhibits in §2(d) refusals
  • Preparing prosecution-related client communications and status reporting
