I ♡ Trademarks Conference RoundtablesDesign of the Times: Overview of Current Practices in Design Protection
Alt Legal Team | January 26, 2025
We’ll be making the most of our time during the lunch hour at the I ♡ Trademarks Conference by hosting small roundtable discussions on a variety of relevant topics. Each roundtable will have a host assigned to lead the discussion with pertinent questions, allowing you to share knowledge and resources and get to know your fellow conference attendees.
Roundtable Description
How to protect product and packaging designs can be one of the more mystifying areas of intellectual property. When can you seek trade dress protection? How can copyright protect a product design? What is a design patent? What type of similar protection is available outside the US? During this roundtable, Steve Cooper (Partner at Ware Fressola) will lead participants in a discussion of these questions and more as they do a deep dive into anything a trademark attorney may want to know about design protection, including:
- Differences between protecting designs by trade dress, copyright, and patents
- Key knowledge points for practitioners to maximize their clients’ design protection options
- Important updates to US and EU design laws that have gone into effect in 2025
