Scam and Fraud Allegations
The USPTO has cancelled thousands of marks and imposed sanctions on several “low-cost trademark filing and design websites used to defraud trademark owners and the USPTO.”
A federal judge has ruled against a man accused of operating an “Internet-based counterfeiting scheme,” wherein he registered trademarks and domain names for university teams without their permission.
Apparently some hackers are sending copyright infringement notices as phishing scams.
